Últimas fotos de la sonda Cassini

Después de muchos años de viaje, por fin la sonda Cassini de la Nasa llegó a Saturno hace poco. Uno de los objetivos más importantes de la misión es analizar Titán, una de las lunas de Saturno. Se trata de una luna especialmente interesante porque tiene una atmósfera con unas condiciones muy similares a las que se supone que tenía la atmósfera de la Tierra hace millones de años.

Los científicos de la NASA y la ESA están bastante sorprendidos con los últimos datos. Parece ser que la concentración de carbono es mucho más alta de lo que se esperaba. Esto da alguna que otra esperanza a los que esperan encontrar algún tipo de vida primitiva en Titán.

El gran momento llegará del 14 de enero del año que viene cuando dejen caer la sonda Huygens dentro de la atmósfera de Titán.

  1. Otro dato interesante es que Titan tiene un tamaño mayor que tamaño mayor que mercurio. Vamos que más que un satélite es un planeta, salvo que gira alrededor de un planeta en vez de alrededor de una estrella.

  2. Por cierto, si alguien de por aquí es también aficionado a la astronomia, le recomiendo el programa «Celestia». Que es gratuito y podrás «volar» por el espacio en tu propia casa…… jejejeje
    Curioso ver «de cerca» este satélite…

Efectivamente, tal y como tu dices Samuel, Celestia es un grán programa «gratuito» en cierto modo es un simulador 3D en tiempo real, de las posiciones de los planetas, comentas, asteroides, satélites, etc etc, resulta impresionante poder viajar por nuestra via lactea y salir de nuestra galaxia para aproximarse a la compañera M31.

    Como dice, Samuel, os lo recomoiendo…. esperemos que podamos escuchar y o mejor aún, ver, la atmosfera de Titan el año que viene, será interesante ver otros mundos.

    el Celestia tambien es open-source, incluso hay un link donde se puede bajar una version «adaptada» por la NASA , que es la que usan en sus presentaciones en colegios o charlas educativas (la unica diferencia con el Celestia original es que este viene con las texturas realistas e imagenes de las sondas de la NASA, que el el original debes poner tu mismo)

    Estoy esperando con ansias el 14 de Enero, quiero «escuchar» los sonidos de Titan y estoy haciendo fuerzas para que la Huygens pueda tomar fotografias en el rango de la luz visible ….. esperemos que todo marche bien.

    Una pequeña puntualización sobre celestia… más que gratuito u «open-source», celestia es libre, ya que su licencia es la GPL.

    Se podría decir que todo el software libre es open source, pero no todo el software open source es libre.
